🇮🇹 THE UNBORN – OBEY
Nato alla fine del 2015, il quintetto italiano The Unborn è riuscito a tenere segrete le identità dei propri componenti fino ad oggi. In compenso almeno la musica dei cinque ignoti sta per essere rivelata, visto che il gruppo sta per pubblicare il singolo di debutto Obey, contenente due tracce, tramite le etichette Skinhead Sounds, Chosen Few Street Productions, Tuscia Clan, Torpedos, Anfibio Records e Rusty Knife Records.
Influenzati dai film horror, thriller, noir e dalla fantascienza post apocalittica, gli Unborn non sono il primo gruppo Oi! / streetpunk ad ispirarsi all’oscurità e al terrore dell’aldilà . Ricordo vagamente un gruppo tedesco di cui non mi viene in mente il nome, quindi nel complesso gli Unborn sono uno dei pochi gruppi Oi! / streetpunk, se non l’unico, che in questo momento porta avanti queste influenze. Il fatto che le identità dei componenti The Shape, The Fog, The Blob, The Fiend e The Ghoul siano strettamente riservate rende il tutto più misterioso. E questa è una cosa che mi piace.
Come ho già detto, Obey contiene due tracce, entrambe stampate sul lato A del singolo, che è un 7″ con un solo lato inciso. “La Città Verrà Distrutta all’Alba” è ispirata al film di George Romero “The Crazies” (1973) ed è cantata in italiano, la lingua madre della band. Nonostante il fatto che il mio italiano sia a dir poco arrugginito, solitamente preferisco i gruppi che cantano nella propria lingua, ma apprezzo il fatto che “They Live”, ispirata al film omonimo di John Carpenter (1988), sia in inglese. “La Città Verrà Distrutta all’Alba” ha delle grandi melodie e cori potenti, mentre “They Live” è più arrabbiata e veloce, e questo le dà un tocco hardcore-punk. Roba buona!
Con sei etichette coinvolte ed una tiratura di sole 300 copie, probabilmente Obey verrà disseminato in giro per il mondo rapidamente. Quindi, se vi piace lo streetpunk con sfumature oscure e terrificanti – che in qualche maniera fanno pensare a un miscuglio tra i Nabat e i Blitzkid – ascoltate gli Unborn!

Formed in late 2015, Italy’s quintet The Unborn have been able to keep their identities a secret until this very day. The music of the unknown five is about to be revealed though, as the band is releasing their two-track debut single Obey through Skinhead Sounds, Chosen Few Street Productions, Tuscia Clan, Torpedos, Anfibio Records and Rusty Knife Records.
Influenced by horror, thriller, noir and post-apocalyptic science fiction flicks, The Unborn aren’t the first Oi! / streetpunk band inspired by grim and terror from the other side. I vaguely remember a German band, but I can’t recall their name, so they’re definitely one of the few – if not – the only Oi! / streetpunk band that currently walks among us with these influences. The fact that the identities of The Shape, The Fog, The Blob, The Fiend and The Ghoul are strictly classified makes it even more mysterious. To which I am a fan of.
As mentioned before, Obey contains two tracks, both pressed on the A-side to make it a single-sided 7″ single. “La Città Verrà Distrutta All’Alba” is inspired by George Romero’s “The Crazies” (1973) and is sung in the band’s native tongue, Italian. Despite that my Italian is a bit rusty, to say the least, I usually prefer a band singing in their own language, but fortunately “They Live”, inspired by John Carpenter’s ’88 movie carrying the same title, is in English. “La Città Verrà Distrutta All’Alba” has great melodies and a powerful chorus, while “They Live” is angrier and has a fast beat to it, giving it more of a hardcore-punk touch than anything else. Good stuff!
With six labels involved and just 300 copies pressed, Obey will probably scatter around the globe in a rapid pace. So if you like your streetpunk with a dark, terrifying undertone – sounding somewhat like a mix between Nabat and Blitzkid – check The Unborn out!
